  • The Middlebrooks of the Georgia Land Lottery
By Neal Middlebrook and Dianne Middlebrooks  (Warning: large file, 10 MB)
Documents our ancestors participation in the land lotteries (1805-1832). The land lot information can be used as a census substitute for the heads of families, to determine the marital status and the movement of families to new counties. By plotting land lot locations on conventional maps, in many cases you can determine the location of your ancestors homestead. A summary is also included that discusses the land lottery information of our ancestor families.   .

Connections to John Middlebrooks (1755):

Connections to Micajah Middlebrooks (1758):

Connections to Nathaniel Middlebrooks (1764):

  • Nathaniel Middlebrook (b. 1764) vs. Garland Middlebrook (b. 1774)
    By Sandy Ahmad
The question is posed: Could Nathaniel Middlebrook of Orange County, Virginia be Garland Middlebrook of Culpepper County, Virginia as listed in the 1909 Register of the Middlebrook Family? I would like to pose the possibility that Garland is actually our ancestor, Nathaniel of Orange County, Virginia and that sons mentioned in Nathaniel’s will, Anderson and Garland, are William (Anderson), d. 1845 and John Garland, d. 1866. We already know from Nathaniel’s will that they have a brother, Archibald, for whom the Register had no information.
  • Nathaniel Middlebrook (1764-1829)
    By Sandy Ahmad
All records regarding Nathaniel have been found in Orange County, Virginia. The 1909 Register of the Middlebrook Family, does not list a Nathaniel Middlebrook in Virginia.  The author includes a comparison of Nathaniel’s records and the Garland Register entry, the search for Nathaniel’s property, Nathaniel’s relationships, his will and his children.

    By Stan Herrin
The article chronicles the descendants of Joseph Middlebrooks (b. 1773) Caswell County, North Carolina and the family branch of Anne Middlebrooks Ashton (b. 1835) in Mississippi. The migration of Middlebrooks families to various Texas counties is documented.
