Please join us for this year’s reunion in Hillsboro, Texas.   Come help us explore Our Texas Roots.  Do you know where or when your ancestors first arrived in Texas?  Why did they move to Texas?  Come and meet your extended family.  Let’s learn more about our ancestors and share family histories, stories, and those old photographs and documents.

Motel reservations at the Holiday Inn Express may be made by calling 254-582-0220. Mention that you are with the Middlebrooks Reunion, to get the reunion rate of $75.60 per night.  This rate is only good through June 17, 2008.

Registration fee is $10.00 per member’s family. Non-members pay $10.00 to register or $20.00 to become an MFA member through Sept. 2009 (includes registration). Make checks payable to the Middlebrooks Family Association, Inc. Please mail your check and your completed registration form to:  Middlebrooks Family Association Inc., C/O Joyce Arnold, 2904 Trinity Dr., Pearland, TX 77584.

 Please contact me, as I need to know how many people to plan for in arranging tours and meals.

 We are planning to make displays of each family group. Please send me the following information for your Middlebrook/s family before you come to the meeting:

1. From what line (NC, VA, CT, or other)
2. When they arrived in Texas
3. Where in Texas they first arrived
4. How they arrived (horse, wagon, train, boat, walking, etc.)
5. Did they come with a group or just the immediate family?
6. Where did they move to in following years?
7. Please send pictures.

Middlebrooks Family Register Update Project

We would like to continue to encourage you to participate in the family register update. If you have Middlebrook/s or allied family information and would like contribute, please contact Leonard Middlebrooks, the project leader, at gambol@juno.com. Be sure your ancestors are included in the update scheduled to come out in 2009. 

Middlebrooks Cemetery Project

We are continuing to record Middlebrook/s and allied family cemetery information and photos.  The goal of the project is to preserve and catalog cemetery information of our ancestors for future generations.  If you would like to submit any cemetery information or have questions about the project, please contact J. Evaluating the Reliability of Published Works and Documents

• Does the work or document make assertions without providing evidence?
• Are some of the sources cited while others are not?
• Does a spot-check of sources support the conclusions made?
• Are there numerous grammatical errors or misspellings?
• Does the author adequately explain and support his conclusions?
• Are some sections very well written and cited while others are not?
• Are sources cited properly, completely, and consistently?
• Do the conclusions drawn support your current thinking or research?  

Middlebrook/s Caswell County North Carolina

 Tax Lists 1777-1806

Notes: Submitted by Neal Middlebrook

1. Tax years 1777-1806 are not continuous.  No Middlebrooks listed for tax years 1777, 1796, 1806.
2. 1777 tax list has very few names.  Not a complete list.
3. All Middlebrooks are listed for the Caswell Tax District (NW corner of Caswell Co.).
4. The figures for tax years 1780-1781, instead of being the actual acres owned., may be assessed values.  No description is provided.  All other acreage figures listed by year are actual acres of land owned.
5. This is the first reference for Micajah and the second for Sims in Caswell County.
6. For the 1790 tax year, John (b. 1755) is listing land for Micajah (b. 1757) and probably paying this year’s taxes.  Some have used this reference as proof that a second John (b.1726) was in Caswell County.  This John is the brother of Micajah.  Isaac  (b.1727) is the father of John and Micajah.

I sent someone in your organization a picture of Saphronia Middlebrooks who died in Alabama.  I have had a computer crash and would love to have a copy sent back to me please.  Saphronia is a descendant of Sims Middlebrooks and married Joshua Jones Flourmoy Lewis.  If you have any information on the picture, please contact  Sunni at SunniMontgomery@aol.com.
